At Okinawa Karate Of Twinsburg our students have the option of learning two different Okinawan martial arts. The first one is Shorin Ryu Karate Do specifically Kobayashi Ryu which is one of the oldest styles of karate. The second style is Okinawa Kobudo or Okinawan weaponry.
We have decades of experience in martial arts and have had a lot of influence from Karate and Kobudo arts. However we have had some influence from Aikido / Aikijusu, Judo, Ju Jutsu, Shorinji Kempo and Arnis so some of the concepts have crossed over through some of our methods. Though we have had influence from others styles we ARE NOT a mixed martial art. In the Okinawan tradition we have trained with others are learned different concepts to help build our understanding.
The styles you can learn and earn rank in are:
Kobayashi Ryu (Shorin Ryu) Karate Do
Okinawa Kobudo (Traditional Okinawan Weapons)
Our karate system includes all of the classic blocks, strikes and kicks that Karate is known for however it also includes the trapping / seizing techniques, join locking techniques, pressure point techniques, throwing / takedown techniques & unbalancing techniques that used to be taught in traditional karate but somewhere was lost. We are working to spread traditional karate as a life preservation art NOT A SPORT.
